We took a long bus ride from the northern end of Vancouver Island down to the southern tip at Victoria. This 9 hour trip took us from cool, damp, gray northern isolation to hot, crowded, beautiful Victoria, BC. We met Laura for lunch and a quick museum jaunt and then she went to prepare for her upcoming concert at the Royal Theater. We wandered a bit and then met Tom and Robin and Doug and Kari for dinner and the evening concert.
The Royal Theater is a 100 year old opera house which was sold out and filled to its capacity of 1600 people. The show started and the three singer-songwriters did a magnificent job of presenting their new music (album: case/lang/veirs) interspersed with songs written earlier by each of the three. kd is very, very popular in Canada and many in the audience knew some of her songs. And Niko is famous also. The audience seemed to love all the music and instantly stood as one to give them one and then another and then a third standing ovation.
Another treat was to see Laura’s long-time accompanist, Steve Moore, here playing the “melodica”. Last we had seen Steve, he was short haired but now not so much. A great and versatile muscian!
After a great concert and a chance to present flowers backstage, Laura stayed with us in our hotel that evening. The next morning Scott joined us along with his boating friend,, Matt. Matt plans to row all the way back to Seattle from Port McNeill as a way to use the time he had blocked out for the race and to get more experience in these complicated northern waters.
Tomorrow we sail to Blunden Harbour. We will have limited internet on the Raincoast.

2 Jul 2016Fantastic posts and photos. The Colorado Springs contingent is very excited to see case/lang/veirs “Laura’s show” 😉 at the Denver Botanical Garden next weekend. I don’t know if we will be able to see her, but love seeing the family pic in your blog. A nine hour bus ride – yikes!

4 Jul 2016Loved the photo of you and Laura. Singing and concerts must be the right thing for Laura….she hasn’t aged a bit. In fact our fortysomething daughters look very much alike…tall, skinny, longish straight hair and glasses….beautiful.

5 Jul 2016We look forward to her concert in Denver with many “hut trip” friends! Marilyn Taggart sent me a Seattle paper article, so we read it last night with Patersons and Burns —–gathered for dinner, and later fireworks observed from Barnes Hall upper deck.

8 Jul 2016It sounds like a great concert and so much fun to see the band live at a sold out theater. Matt’s row boat looks a lot like our Merry Wherry which we enjoy rowing but not as far as he plans! We are not so energetic these days. However, all is well with us.
We had a great time visiting Alert Bay and your blog brought back some lovely memories of last summer. I hope you enjoy the rest of the Broughtons and rainforest going North.
